I love designing guest rooms. There's something really fun about creating a space that you know will make a visit with family and friends more enjoyable. It's like creating a hotel room on a VERY small scale! It's also touching when clients are thoughtful enough to want to create an amazing space for their guests.

I can't even think of a word to sum up this space "before." It was fairly non-descript. Pinkish/ tan walls, beige trim, track lighting, and a hodge podge of furniture the couple had from years past.

My clients wanted a neutral space with a clean and contemporary feel. Other musts included: more lighting, the option to sleep more guests if needed, more storage space, a place for a TV and an updated guest bath (more on that in a future post).

We were actually really happy with this plan, but ran into a few hiccups. By the time we were ready to purchase the rug, it was no longer available (SO bummed, we loved that rug) and the shipping on the dresser was absurd causing us to make a last minute switch. The chaise was incorporated as an option to sleep one more person, but once the other furniture pieces were in the room I was not comfortable with the length. It would encroach on the bed and nightstand too much and being a custom piece (i.e. not returnable), I couldn't take that chance. Instead we found this great twin sleeper sofa from Crate & Barrel and it worked out wonderfully!

Here's the revised and executed design plan:

We went with Benjamin Moore, Gray Owl on the walls and white trim.

We also purchased all new furniture, skimmed out the textured ceilings and added new recessed lighting. To finish off the space. . .new window treatments, clean white bedding layered with pattern and decor that brought small splashes of color.

And, voila! This is just a sneak peak, as you can see many of the items still had not arrived. Full reveal coming soon!
