Bullhorns and sequins. Alright, maybe not the most obvious of combinations - I'll give you that, but believe it or not, they can work together. Showing exactly how was the challenge with my most recent project.
When I met with my client, she told me "I just can't decide who these rooms should be." What she means is, she loves antler wreaths, bullhorns and antique ceiling tiles, but is also very drawn to metallics and glitzy pieces. The beauty of her dilemma? She really doesn't have to decide. The rooms can reflect both of her styles. It's quite simply, rustic glamour.
I chose a monochromatic palette to let architectural details and metallic accents to take center stage. The restrained palette also lets rustic and glamour come together without looking forced or silly.
I turned the sofa to face the opposite direction and the console table (currently placed next to the large window) will be moved behind the sofa. Moving the table behind the sofa disguises the blah back side and creates a space for fun decor (like the bullhorns inherited from her father-in-law). Two decorative stools will be placed under the console table to be used for additional seating when entertaining.
To create the second seating area, a daybed/ bench will be placed where the sofa is currently positioned. Two small gold end tables and a beautiful wing chair will go in between the window and the bench. The bench allows for two way seating (either facing the sofa, or facing the window) and is the key to creating the second seating area.
Finally, the third seating area was created by adding three adorable tufted stools from World Market around the counter.
The fireplace is beautiful and with a few changes, will become the focal point of the room.
The existing sconces will be replaced with taller options better scaled to the space. We will also hang two identical mirrors vertically above the fireplace to take up more of the unused wall space and draw the eye up toward the cathedral ceilings. A thin piece of molding around the mirrors will complete the design.
The dining room will also undergo a transformation including a distressed table, new pendant and dramatic walls to offset this area as its own space.
Oh, and the best part of this entire project!? I was reconnected with a former colleague and wonderful friend. Doesn't get much better than that...
Sky high ceilings, gorgeous beams and tons of beautiful natural light are all stunning elements of this adjoining living and dining room. Despite these amazing features, my client felt "stuck" trying to figure out how to complete the space. She had a lot of great ideas, but wasn't exactly sure how to pull them all together.

The walls will be painted in a deep gray with brown undertones to compliment her beige furniture. My goal was to utilize as much of the existing furniture as possible. Thanks to my clients willingness to take a chance and paint her red chairs using an automotive vinyl spray paint (gulp!), we were able to reuse every single piece. The floors will be refinished and stained in a rich coffee color (oh, and in case you were wondering, the floors are what triggered this entire redesign).
