I told myself I would try to post weekly updates, but as time goes by, I’m finding that harder and harder to do. I think it’s a combination of me trying to be truly present for this experience combined with busy work schedules. That being said, we DID get to attend a few fun events since my last post. The first being an art fair where I purchased this vibrant print of a settlement here called Tarpum Bay. I’ve always loved this church, so when I stumbled upon this piece, I had to buy it! It’s worth noting, my design approach is vastly different here. :) The frame is hanging from twine repurposed from a pack of homemade cookies from friends and the sea urchin is covering the nail below - beachy, right!? Ha!
Tom had to make a quick trip home for work, but the kids and I stayed back. Per usual, his time home was a complete whirlwind, but very productive.
Checking out the fire engine playground after dropping Tom off at the airport
The day after he returned to the island we attended a Junior Junkanoo in Governor’s Harbour. A Junkanoo is a Bahamian street parade with colorful costumes, music and rhythmic dance. The Junior Junkanoo was put on by elementary and middle schools of the various settlements across the island. It was so much fun! The kids were adorable in their costumes dancing and playing music. I love that this cultural event is still an important tradition here.
The next morning we drove about an hour and 20 minutes north and took the ferry over to Harbour Island. We had never been, and friends from Indy were there on spring break, so it was a great opportunity to visit. It’s amazing how an island just a 5 minute ferry ride away can be so different. Harbour Island is FILLED with shops, restaurants, houses, tourists and golf carts. Definitely a fun place to visit. I loved seeing the design and architecture there, and of course catching up with friends was amazing!
Two days later, our friends Jay and Shannon Braun plus 2 of their 5 kids arrived on island (I wrote a bit about them in my post about the boat as Jay is who hauled our boat from Indy to Miami). We had the BEST time. It was great not only showing them the sites, but more-so just spending time together hanging out and catching up. We feel so fortunate to have friends that feel more like family. The older I get, the more I realize how rare and special that is.
After a bit of a rescue mission the day prior, Tom decided a paddle lesson was in order - thanks to our neighbor Dianne for the great pic!

Always laughing together
Dinner out - not something we do very often here
We’re gearing up for Holy Week/ Easter and the kids are going to race in their first sailing regatta next weekend. Should be super fun!
