A Place to Play

My daughter's 1st birthday and Christmas were about a month apart which meant our house quickly became inundated with TOYS! It did not take long for me to realize the time had come, a playroom was a must.

My anal retentive nature cannot handle the overflowing basket of toys in the living room. I am constantly reminded by those close to me to enjoy this time in my life and not worry about senseless things like cleaning and straightening up, but I can't help it. Having toys all over the place, all the time, drives me I.N.S.A.N.E!

When we bought the house I designated this beauty as the playroom. Horrendous, I know...

Of course the room will get a redesign. I want a clean and simple space complete with white walls, charcoal trim, a magnetic chalkboard wall and plenty of storage. Something like this...

A playroom is not exactly where I want to spend a ton of money, so I opted for several IKEA selections.
  • The walls have already been painted and are Decorator White by Benjamin Moore (a crisp white that doesn't pull pink, yellow or gray). The trim is Black Panther also by Benjamin Moore.
  • The white Expedit shelves and coordinating baskets will provide much needed storage (at a kid friendly height)
  • I am a sucker for oversized lighting, so went with a charcoal pendant that has an industrial feel and coordinates with the color of the trim
  • Our current coffee table was a freebie from my in-laws barn a few years back. A little paint and distressing brought it back to life, but it doesn't work in our new living room. Sooo, off to the playroom it will go to become a craft/ coloring table.
  • I purchased two chevron runners (from West Elm) for our kitchen, but decided they will look much better in the playroom. I plan to connect the runners to make one mid size rug.
  • There is a very large closet in the room that will become a reading nook with bunk beds for nieces and nephews when they visit. The "frame" wallpaper is actually meant to be drawn on - I can't wait to see the messages our little visitors leave.
  • One wall of the room will have a painted magnetic chalkboard for doodles and drawings
  • The Step 2 slide and swing set was a gift from Grandma & Grandpa and my daughter is obsessed with it! Definitely a must in the playroom.
The room is about 75% complete, and we already spend lots of time in there.

I'll share a sneak peek this weekend!
