Sorry for the lack of posts this week, it has been a busy one.
Awhile back I mentioned that we made changes to the layout of our master bedroom, bathroom and sitting room, but never explained what those changes were or why we made them. To help give you perspective, here is the original layout of the rooms:
The master bedroom was connected to the master bathroom and there was a doorway from the master bedroom into the master sitting room. The master sitting room had two doorways on either side of the fireplace, both which led to the hallway - why they did this, I have no idea.
When we first bought this house we had a newborn and lived elsewhere because we were in the midst of extensive renovations. This meant I was making pretty big design decisions without actually being in the space (and with a perspective that was clearly impacted by significant sleep deprivation). So, when my husband called asking what I wanted to do with the two doors in the master sitting room, I told him to drywall over both.

At the time, I did not want the master sitting to be a family space and thought it made sense for the only access to be from the actual bedroom. But, after we moved in, I discovered the only logical place for a bed in the bedroom was not big enough for a bed and two nightstands. This was a deal breaker.
After a lot of thought, we ended up switching the master bedroom and sitting rooms. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but remember those doorways I told my husband to cover up? Well, you can't have a master bedroom without a door. Six months later he was cutting in the same door he had just removed. Oops! :)

Actually - there are a few other reasons it made more sense to switch the two spaces. The main being, the closets are now in the sitting room which is next to the bathroom. This allows for minimal disruption in the morning to the lucky one that gets to sleep in (right now, that's me).
Also, the sitting room will be at the front of the house, which means the bedroom is a bit more private and quiet.

We rearranged the layout of the master bathroom, too. We left the shower in the same spot, but moved the location of the vanity and toilet. The original bathroom only had a single vanity, by moving it we were able to fit a 72" double vanity. We removed the jacuzzi tub and added a soaker tub under the window. The toilet was moved just a few feet down the wall. This allowed us to add a wall with pocket door to create a separate and private area for the toilet (what I like to call the "potty pocket"). Across from the toilet there will be a linen closet for extra storage.

So there you have it, the drama of space planning. Glad we are past that and quickly wrapping up construction. I will post progress pictures sometime soon.
