Well, the DIY mantel project is complete and Bridget was kind enough to share the before and after photos.

Here was the fireplace plan (recall we were trying to visually offset the off center firebox).

I think it looks pretty fabulous, don't you!?
Bridget followed a tutorial found here to build this gorgeous piece for so much less than if she was to purchase a solid, pre-stained piece. She did opt for three pieces of pine bringing her total to around $90 (as opposed to the $25 in the tutorial), but that's still a great deal, and the impact it has on the space is amazing!
